I purchased my ticket for UAC months ago. I wouldn’t miss this event even if it were being held at the intersection of my Saturn IC and my Pluto DSC lines… and I didn’t look beforehand, either. Now that I have pulled up my astrocartography and relocated natal chart for Chicago, I will say the data is, at minimum, interesting enough to write about.
A few disclaimers before we get into it. I am not a professional Astrocartographer [although I do have a B.A. in Geography] and I do not hold any Astrocartography certifications. Astrocartography and relocation astrology are specialized techniques, and I’m learning them in real time alongside everything else. This post is not “here is my expert analysis of my relocated chart.” It’s closer to “here is what the data shows, here is what I think it might mean, and here is what I plan to pay attention to when I’m actually in Chicago.”

Lines on a Map
For those unfamiliar: astrocartography (ACG) is a technique that projects your natal chart onto a world map. Every planet in your chart sits on an angle somewhere on Earth. If you were born with Jupiter near the Midheaven, there’s a line on the map where Jupiter was exactly on the MC at the moment you took your first breath [or whatever the time the attending nurse wrote on the birth certificate, anyways]. Travel to that line, or live near it, and the theory goes that Jupiter-MC themes (career expansion, public recognition, optimism in your professional life) become more pronounced.
There are four angles, so each planet generates four lines: Ascendant (ASC), Descendant (DSC), Midheaven (MC), and Imum Coeli (IC). That’s 40+ lines crisscrossing the globe before you even get to the asteroids and Arabic parts. The IC, for those keeping score, corresponds to the 4th house… foundations, inner life, roots, the ground beneath your feet.
Then there’s local space, which is not entirely different but a separate beast nonetheless. Local space lines radiate outward from your birth location like spokes on a wheel, showing the compass direction of each planet at the moment of birth. Extend those lines far enough and they circle the globe. Where they cross notable locations… that’s where it gets fun.
I ran both for Chicago.
What Runs Near the Marriott
My Uranus IC line passes within 0.2° of Chicago, approximately 4.5 miles from the Marriott Chicago Magnificent Mile. That is not “near” the line. That is on the line. The rule of thumb varies [some say within one degree of longitude (~50 miles at mid-latitudes), others use tighter orbs]. At 0.2°, this is about as tight as it gets.
Three lines caught my attention, but the Uranus IC line is the one that demands the most — both because of its proximity and because of what it does to the relocated chart.
Sky Would Walk 500 Miles (544 Miles West, To Be Exact)
A relocated natal chart is a complementary technique. Take the exact date and time of your birth, but recalculate the chart for a different location. Same planets, same signs, same aspects between them. What changes are the house cusps, the angles, and consequently which houses the planets fall into. It’s a “what if” calculation: what would your chart look like if the sky had been oriented over Chicago instead of your birth city at that exact moment?
The relocated chart data I’m working with scores planetary and house strength using a system called Astrodynes. A quick primer for anyone unfamiliar (I am effectively parroting this information for the reader’s edification rather than speaking from expertise): Astrodynes is a quantitative scoring methodology developed by C.C. Zain that assigns numerical values to planets, signs, and houses based on their strength (power) and whether their influence leans constructive or challenging (harmony vs. discord). Not every astrologer uses it and not every tradition even likes the idea of reducing chart interpretation to numbers. But for the specific exercise of comparing a natal chart to a relocated one, having actual values to set side by side is useful (plus I freakin’ love maps) and that’s the spirit in which I’m using them here. For the record, I am fascinated by what I have learned about AstroCartoGraphy and Astrodynes so far. I am not, however, fascinated by the ‘official’ term including the capital ‘C’ and ‘G’… I always read it as “Astro Cart-o Grafee” in my head.
Jupiter Did Something
Jupiter’s harmony score increased by +10.62 in my relocated chart. That’s the single largest positive shift of any planet. To put it in context: Jupiter was already my second-most harmonious natal planet (+24.45). In Chicago, it rises to +35.07. Factor in secondary progressions for September 2026, and it climbs to +39.87. My most harmonious planet by a wide margin, and it’s not close.
Jupiter governs expansion, learning, teachers, higher education, optimism, opportunity, and philosophical inquiry. I am traveling to the largest gathering of astrologers on the planet to attend lectures, study with teachers I’ve admired from a distance, and sit for a certification exam in the discipline I’ve been studying for.
If you were designing a planetary alignment for “go to this conference and soak up as much as you possibly can,” you would ask for Jupiter to do exactly this.
I’m not drawing conclusions. I’m noting the thematic overlap and raising an eyebrow (not entirely in The Rock manner).
The Houses Tell the Story
House power and harmony: Buffalo vs. Chicago, with deltas.
The 4th house nearly doubles in power, jumping from 66.90 to 137.17. That tracks: the IC is the cusp of the 4th house, and with my Uranus IC line sitting 4.5 miles from the venue, this is the relocated chart doing exactly what the theory predicts it should. The 9th house is the other headline, tripling from 26.49 to 75.69. Higher education, philosophy, long-distance travel, teachers, mentors, the search for meaning through knowledge — UAC is a 9th house event by any reasonable definition. The 8th house, meanwhile, flips from my most discordant house (-13.25) to harmonious (+27.56) — a swing of +40.81 — and the 10th house picks up gains in both power (+22.48) and harmony (+10.15), which, for someone whose career aspirations are directly tied to this conference and this exam, is nice to read.
Not everything improves, though. The 7th house drops by -50.17 in power and the 3rd follows at -52.25.
The relocated chart doesn’t uniformly make things better; it redistributes.
Some areas of life get amplified, others get quieter.
A chart that says “wheeeeeee everything is great!” is something I would scrutinize.
The Uranus Paradox
Here’s the part that I’m still unpacking:
Uranus is right there. 4.5 miles from the venue, on my IC, 4th house is roaring with power as a result… and yet, Uranus itself becomes more discordant in the relocated chart and its harmony score drops from +14.52 to -2.01, a decline of -16.53? I presume this is something someone with a tighter grasp on astrocartography could internally process and effectively communicate the ‘why’ behind it but I’m not there yet so I will hypothesize before your very eyes.
So, reading further, I’m seeing that this is the tension angular planets create. Being on an angle (ASC, DSC, MC, IC) makes a planet loud, prominent, impossible to ignore. But, as you may be aware, prominence and comfort are not the same thing. A planet can demand your attention while simultaneously making you uncomfortable [we’ve all had that coworker before, right?].
Something to consider when it comes to astrocartography (which is not dissimilar to “the symbol is not the sentence” mantra of ethical astrological consultation): a planetary line doesn’t install new material into your life. It foregrounds the planetary themes you already carry in your natal chart. The line is a volume knob [does it go to 11?], not a new instrument. Whatever my natal Uranus promises… constructive and difficult alike… Chicago turns it up.
Uranus on the IC might mean that my inner foundations, the convictions and worldview I’ve built my sense of security on, get called into question. Not destroyed. Questioned. Uranus is all about the sudden, electric, paradigm-shifting kit and kaboodle. Whether that manifests as a breakthrough insight in a lecture hall or an unsettled feeling in my hotel room at 2 a.m., well, that part remains to be seen.
One theme that shows up consistently across allllll the Uranus IC interpretations I have read: at this location, you find your family in like-minded individuals rather than in blood relations. Groovy; I’m about to spend a week surrounded by 1,500 people who share a discipline I’ve studied almost entirely alone where, at points, I’ve felt as though I’m living out some sort of astrological equivalent of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. That resonance is hard to ignore.
This is the part of astrocartography that my various reading has described but truly requires the experience to fully absorb; I’m looking forward to that opportunity.
The Mars Problem
(and the Venus Answer)
There’s a second paradox in the data, and it took the progressed overlay to surface it.
Recently, I have brazenly sashayed into a new Zodiacal Releasing major period from the Lot of Spirit. Sign: Aries. Ruler: Mars. Here I am in a fifteen-year cycle of initiative, assertion, and direct pursuit of purpose.
Mars is the time lord [siiiick designation]. Mars sets the tone.
So, in that progressed relocated chart for Chicago in September 2026, Mars collapses. Its harmony drops from -1.45 to -17.94… the sharpest negative shift of any planet in the progression overlay.
The planet that governs my new life chapter is at its most discordant in the exact city where that chapter begins… butts.
However, Venus surges from +17.87 to +33.87, a gain of sixteen points. By September, Venus becomes one of the most harmonious planets in my progressed relocated chart, right alongside Jupiter.
I’m not going to pretend I have a kung-fu grip on all of this yet… but this aspect of it reads pretty clearly.
I’ve got the Aries period’s energy: initiative, forward motion, assertion of purpose, but it doesn’t express well through raw Martian force in Chicago. Aggression, confrontation, brute competitive drive: these channels are noisy and discordant… so I guess I won’t be power bombing any fellow astrologers through a table while I am there.
What works, instead, is both Jupiterian and Venusian. Collaboration. Generosity. Relational intelligence. The ability to listen well and connect authentically. Showing up with curiosity rather than trying to dominate the room.
For a conference (especially one where I am a teeny tiny wee little fishy), this feels like the right instruction.
You don’t walk into a gathering hosting a staggering number of the world’s foremost astrologers and win by being the loudest voice. You win by being the most genuinely interested one.
Beyond all that, my Sun also gains nearly ten points in the progressed overlay (+28.29 → +38.23), reinforcing a sense of purposeful, authentic presence. Mercury sharpens too (+3.01 → +11.89). The overall signature for September in Chicago tilts hard toward soft power: influence through articulation and charm, not force.
Entering a Mars-ruled period and finding out that Mars is not the tool to reach for in Chicago? That’s fine by me. A forceful approach at a conference where I know almost nobody would have been a recipe for a rough week.
What I Don’t Know (And I Mean It)
Even with the natal relocation and the progressed overlay, there are things I want to be transparent about.
The ACG map I ran shows natal lines. The progressed analysis layered on top of it captures how secondary progressions modify the relocated picture for September 2026, and the results (the Mars/Venus inversion, Jupiter climbing further, the Sun strengthening) reinforced rather than contradicted the natal relocation. But progressed ACG lines… where the actual lines on the map shift position over time… are a separate technique I have only just begun to tinker with. The natal Uranus IC line at 0.2° from Chicago is the dominant feature, and I’m confident in that. Whether progressed lines add or complicate the picture is something I still have much to learn about.
Astrodynes is one scoring system. It gives me numbers to compare, which is valuable for this kind of side-by-side analysis. But not every tradition uses quantitative scoring, and I wouldn’t want someone to read this and think these numbers are the only valid way to assess a relocated chart.
There’s also the question of duration. I’ll be in Chicago for about a week. Some astrologers argue that relocation effects require sustained presence… months or years of living somewhere. Others say you can feel the influence of a strong ACG line the moment you cross it.
I don’t have a strong position on this yet. I’ve read that a way to study this is to look at your natal chart/map and kinda “reverse engineer” the interpretations based on places you may have traveled to that were near ACG lines and the memories of those experiences.
Either way, what I do know is that if you’re going to test a theory, sitting within 0.2° of your Uranus IC line for a week during the most significant astrological conference in eight years is not the worst experimental design.
The Timing Underneath
I want to briefly note the timing context, because it amplifies the relocation picture.
I recently entered a new Zodiacal Releasing major period [yet another topic where my post-UAC knowledge will be roughly INFINITY PERCENT greater than my current working knowledge but, hey, if it wasn’t expressly outlined in the NCGR-PAA Level I Exam Comprehensive Topic List than it has not been on my study radar other than a little ’ole dabble-doo here and there when I need a break from studying].
The Lot of Spirit progressed into Aries, ruled by Mars, beginning a fifteen-year cycle of initiative and assertive pursuit [so I am told]. Meanwhile, Saturn lords the current releasing period at a shorter timescale. Mars and Saturn are working the same shift: push forward, but build on bedrock.
This appears to read as though these planets are creating a particular quality for the trip. I’m not just showing up to passively absorb information. The timing suggests this is an active threshold, a period where what I do with the knowledge matters as much as the knowledge itself. I understand that Saturn’s weight demands I take the work seriously while Mars says to actually do something with it… those are, in fact, relevant to Level I Certification lol.
Jupiter’s amplification in the relocated chart sits on top of this timing like an accelerant. The opportunity expands, but the discipline required to use it well doesn’t go away.
Paying Attention
I’ve laid out the data. Some of it is strikingly thematic. Some of it raises more questions than it answers. All of it is filtered through the perspective of someone who is still learning these techniques and holds the interpretations loosely enough to revise them.
When I step off the train at Union Station on September 1st, I’ll be within 0.2° of my Uranus IC line with a Jupiter running hotter than it’s ever run. My 9th house will be doing things it never does in Buffalo, and the progressed chart will be telling me to lead with curiosity and generosity while Mars takes a seat (TAKE A SEAT MARS).
How all of that synthesizes in the way astrocartography and relocation astrology suggest it should… that is one of the many things I am excited to learn about and experience during my time in Chicago.
